Iron to opt for dual management role?

Braintree Town are considering the prospect of installing a joint management team.

The Blue Square South club have discussed the possibility of pairing current caretaker boss Brad Quinton with another coach.

The Iron have been delighted with the response they have to their vacant manager’s role, following the departure of Lee Patterson in November.

A number of high-calibre candidates have applied.

However, Quinton has impressed since taking temporary charge of the Braintree side, losing only one of their six matches under his leadership.

Braintree were due to have had their regular board meeting at Cressing Road last night, where the first team management situation will once again be discussed.

But chairman Lee Harding and his fellow directors are extremely pleased with Quinton’s work and are considering him as a serious candidate for a full-time player-management role.

Harding said: “Brad is doing well and it’s nice to see the players playing with a smile on their faces.

“We’re in a nice position at the moment in that we do not need to panic into making a decision.”

Braintree are back in action again on Saturday when they travel to play Bromley.

The clash is likely to see Iron quartet Gareth Williams, Danny Hockton, Jack Haverson and goalkeeper Craig Holloway all return to their former club.

“They’re all really up for the game,” said Harding. “Gareth in particular played very well when we beat them 2-0 at our place earlier in the season, scoring twice.”
