Iron looking to clean up act

Braintree Town chairman Lee Harding has a New Year resolution – to improve the club’s poor disciplinary record.

Harding is fed up with seeing the club’s players pick up needless bookings and has introduced a code of conduct at Cressing Road in order to clamp down on ill-discipline on the field.

As the Iron prepare for another passionate derby clash with rivals Bishop’s Stortford in Blue Square South on New Year's Day, the Braintree chairman has urged their players to adhere to the club’s new disciplinary rules.

He said: “We’re aware that the FA are taking a close look at our discipline.

“We’ve spoken to the players about them getting themselves suspended with pointless dismissals.

“It’s common sense – the players know that they have to look after themselves and stay on the field.

“I’ve not got a problem with a whole-hearted challenge that could be possibly mis-timed.

“But the acts of petulance are needless and we know that if we keep all 11 players on the field, we have a better chance of winning.”
