Danny Greaves has insisted he is not worried by Witham Town’s precarious league position.

And Town’s new manager has said his main aim will be to preserve the club’s fragile Ryman League status.

Greaves, who was appointed as Tony Last’s successor last week, got off to a perfect start as boss, guiding his side to a 1-0 win over Northwood.

It was Town’s first league victory since early September.

Greaves, who had a spell as manager at Spa Road in the late eighties, is looking forward to the challenge of lifting Witham from the doldrums.

move And he admitted that his short term aim is to see Witham move up the division one north table.

He told the Times: “The goal this season is to stay in the league and then we want to progress.

“I asked them where they wanted the club to go.

“They are a lovely club and the people there are desperate to see it do well.

“They have had a few years of not doing anything.

“But the league position that the team are in at the moment is one of the reasons that the job appealed to me.

“In a way, it’s a no-lose situation for me.”

Witham do not have a game this weekend.

They are next in action on Tuesday night when they entertain Waltham Forest in the Isthmian League Cup at the Spicer McColl Stadium, Spa Road.
