Witham Town manager Tony Last will be hoping to celebrate his wedding anniversary in style on Saturday.

Last and his wife Linda will mark 39 years of marriage this weekend.

The couple will celebrate the occasion at the Spicer McColl Stadium, Spa Road, where Town take on rivals Maldon Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

It has been a big week of milestones for Last, who has also celebrated his 60th birthday.

The Witham chairman and first-team boss will come up against his former player and assistant, Russell Tanner.

Tanner progressed to become Witham’s manager, before leaving last season and eventually moving to Maldon.

The pair will come face to face again on Saturday and Last is looking forward to locking horns with his former pupil.

“I taught Russell everything he knows!” he joked.

“I have a few extra things up my sleeve now and the master always has the most powerful wand!”

Witham could also welcome back a few other former players for the FA Cup clash.

Glen Revell, Cody McDonald, Kevin Hawes and David Hawes all moved to Park Drive, having previously played for Witham.

However, all four are said to be nursing injuries and could miss out on the opportunity of taking on their former club.

A prize fund of £1,500 is on offer to the winners but Last is not attaching too much importance to that.

He added: “It would be great to go through but the financial element is not the be all and end all.”
