Gareth Williams has his sights set on winning promotion with Braintree Town.

The 25-year-old striker is one of a number of summer signings made by the Iron, after moving from fellow Blue Square South club Bromley.

And he has high hopes for his new club ahead of the new season, which Braintree begin with a home game against Dorchester Town on Saturday.

He told the Braintree and Witham Times: “I’m really looking forward to the season.

“Pre-season is all about fitness but it’s the first league game that players really look forward to.

“There’s been a lot of play-offs at the club over recent years and we want to be up there and challenging and going one better this time around.

“If you haven’t got aspirations of getting promoted at the start of the season then you won’t have a chance.

“I spoke to the manager a few months ago and he told me he wanted me to come to the club, so I was delighted to join.”
