Witham Town are hoping to attract a new generation of supporters by allowing youngsters to watch their games for nothing.
Town kick-off their new Ryman League division one north campaign with a home game against Essex rivals Tilbury on August 16.
And youngsters under the age of 16 will be able to watch the clash, along with the rest of Town’s league games at the Spicer McColl Stadium, Spa Road, this season – free of charge.
Last season the club allowed every two under-16 spectators in free of charge, providing they were accompanied by a paying adult.
However, from now on youngsters will not have to pay a penny.
Chairman and manager Tony Last said: “It’s part of an FA-backed initiative to get more youngsters to watch grassroots football.
“We’re very keen to attract more youngsters through the turnstiles at Witham and this is a great way of doing it.”
Last has been pleased with the club’s pre-season programme so far.
Witham were beaten 2-1 by Ryman League premier division club Heybridge Swifts last Friday.
New signing Tom Robinson gave Town the lead but an own goal by Grant O’Donnell and Mark Reddaway’s strike soon after won the game for Swifts.
“We have made a number of changes during the matches we’ve played, including the Heybridge game,” he said.
“We outplayed Heybridge for most of the game and we looked strong, particularly at the back and in midfield.”
Last is particularly pleased with the central defensive partnership developing between captain Nathan Fletcher and new signing, Brad David.
David signed for Town this summer following a brief stint with neighbours Wivenhoe Town and has settled in well.
“They look like they could be forming a very good partnership for us,” added Last.
Witham are still adding to their squad, ahead of the new season.
They have completed the signing of Canvey Island striker Victor Okisor.
Witham have also brought in Robinson, the grandson of former Spurs and England legend Jimmy Greaves and nephew of ex-Witham boss, Danny Greaves.
Witham continue their pre-season campaign with a home match against Essex Senior League club Barkingside on Saturday.
They are also in action again on Tuesday night, when Silver End are the visitors to the Spicer McColl Stadium, Spa Road for the club’s last friendly.
All proceeds from the game, which kicks off at 7.45pm, will go to Essex Air Ambulance.
