Braintree Town have awarded loyal servant Steve Good a testimonial, despite his departure from the club.

Good, pictured right, was released by the Blue Square South club after nearly six years at Cressing Road and has moved to Maldon Town.

However, the Iron chairman Lee Harding has promised Good a testimonial, as recognition of his service to the Blue Square South team.

The versatile player was told by manager George Borg he is surplus to requirements at Braintree.

Good said: "I was disappointed to go. George has been trying to find a winning formula for this season and he's brought in a few new players and the club have had to make sure that the books are balanced.

"I'd have liked to have stayed and been a part of it and helped them challenge for promotion.

"But it might work out now that I'm playing more regularly.

"And I'll still be in and around the club for the forseeable future."

Good won a Ryman League premier division winners' medal with Braintree in 2006 and was voted Player of the Year at Cressing Road three seasons ago by Iron's fans.

However, he has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by over recent times.

"I want to play as much as possible but George has always been up front with me," said Good, who made his Maldon debut in their FA Cup victory over Saffron Walden Town last Saturday.
