Witham Town have received a boost after learning that Jamie Ricks' hamstring problem is not as bad as first feared.

The former Halstead Town striker saw a specialist last week over the injury, which saw him limp out of their 2-2 draw at Potters Bar Town.

However, it seems as though Ricks, who has been suffering from the same ailment for a number of months, might just need rest and recuperation.

Witham boss Ken O'Donnell will make a late decision on his fitness ahead of the club's Ryman League division one north clash with Great Wakering Rovers at the Spcier McColl Stadium, Spa Road on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

O'Donnell said: "We're hoping that Jamie will get the all-clear but we'll decide tomorrow whether he will play any part.

"Jamie is a key player for us and we have to make sure that he gets himself fully fit before he starts playing again."

One player who will not play against Great Wakering is club captain Nathan Sharp.

The defender is still struggling for fitness and Witham want to assess him in the reserves before he returns to first-team action.

Another player likely to miss the clash is keeper Paul Daley (groin), with Stuart Crumpen set to take his place, while Andy Hughes and Kevin Hawes are both suspended.

Witham are also in action on Tuesday night when they play Wingate and Finchley (7.45pm).
