WITHAM Town manager Mark Ashford says tonight's Velocity Cup tie has come at a good time for his team.

Grays Athletic are due to head to the Village Glass Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) and will face a Witham side who have had a week without action after not seeing Bostik League division north action on Saturday.

Ashford's team will be looking for revenge after being beaten 2-0 by Grays Athletic on the opening day of the league season last month, but the Town boss said he expected to use a number of players who needed to build match fitness as well as some of the club's up and coming youngsters.

He said: "I will probably put a mixed side out with some first team players and also some of the club's younger ones as well.

"There are people in the first-team squad who may need some minutes as people like John Watson, Nathan Cook and Miguel Nydam haven't had as much action at the start of the season as they would have wanted.

"In that respect, the Velocity Cup game has come at a good time for us with not having a game on Saturday.

"I'll also look to bring in some players from the reserves and under-23s because I'm keen to include younger players where I can this year."
