THE HSBC National BMX Series went into the second half of the season at Telford.

Braintree Bullets saw two of their riders reach unassailable points leads in their age groups to be crowned national champions with four rounds to go.

Taking the top points score in the nine to ten girls for the Bullets was Freia Challis, as she went unbeaten through both days' racing, reaching the seven wins she needed to secure the national title.

This is her third consecutive title and she will be looking to add the British title to her list in September.

Sydney Allen needed to secure strong podium finishes in the 15-16 cruiser class to seal the national points lead and didn’t disappoint.

Allen took a commanding win on day one to put him in touching distance of the goal.

On day two he was looking dominant as he led the final, but an overly defensive last turn saw him swooped back to second.

The podium finish was enough, though, and he will be riding the number one plate in 2019.

The Tabor Academy pupil also competed in the 16s class, taking a win in the B final on the first day and improving on the second day with an eighth in the A final.

Also in the 16s was Matt Goodwins, who had a great A final finish on day one as he crossed the line in sixth, followed up with a second in the B final the next day.

In the 9-12 cruiser, Josh Cates took his first national win as he dominated the class on the second day. Cates was consistent through the qualifiers but had a turn of speed in the final to see him lead the pack.

Oli Cutmore made his way in the 17-29 cruiser class final on the second day and was just pipped on the line for the win.

Cutmore, who recently claimed the European number two plate at the European Championships in France, led the race but, like Allen, was caught out in the last corner.

Molly Nice had a consistent weekend in the 15-16 girls as she made her way to fifth in the A final both days.

Kelsey Dixon, meanwhile, had some great first straights in the 17+ women on her way to a sixth on day one and a fifth on day two.

Adam Gilbert had an up and down weekend in the 13-year-olds, leaving him down in eighth place on day one.

However, he made ground on day two with a solid sixth.

On his cruiser he was consistent with two B final wins in the 13-14s class.

Also in the cruisers were Joe Little, Cam Parrish and Joseph Harris.

Little made his way into the A final on the first day to claim eighth, but he bettered that with his best-ever national finish on the second day as he claimed second in the 14s B final.

Parrish rounded off his weekend by taking a sixth and second in the cruiser B final to go with a B final finish on his 20”.

Harris rode to fifth in the cruiser A final on the first day to go with a pair of B final sixths in the 13s.

In the upper age groups, James Yeo entered his first national race for the club and gave the fans something to cheer about as he rode to strong sixth-place finishes both days in the 50+ cruiser.

Club coach Julian Allen was out on track in the 40-44 cruiser class and the veterans' BMX class. Leading by example, Allen made the finals in both classes with his best results in the cruisers, with a pair of sevenths while he took the B final wins on the BMX.

At the opposite end of the age classes, Heath Thomas rode to eighth in the eight-year-olds.

Also making the finals were Josh Wallis, Taylor Andrews and Shane Redgewell in the 17-24s, Heidi Gill in the nine to ten girls and Dan Gilbert in the 17-29 cruisers.
