WITHAM Cricket Club captain Jake Wakelin has called for his team to make sure they continue their good form ahead of a run of games against the four sides above them in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship table.

A ten-wicket demolition of reigning division one champions Elmstead last weekend highlighted the confidence Witham are playing with at the moment.

A run of four wins has placed them fifth in the table and after Saturday's trip to Frinton seconds, Wakelin's side have back-to-back games against the top four - Woolpit, Wivenhoe, Worlington and Halstead.

So the Witham skipper is looking for another strong display against Frinton to keep his buoyant team's run going and put them in a good position to avenge earlier defeats by the division's leading sides.

Wakelin said: "The team are doing well at the moment and it's an enjoyable changing room to be in.

"I said a few weeks ago that I felt, as captain, I needed to step my own game up, but it's not just me, all the boys have stepped up and we are looking ruthless at the moment.

"Winning is a habit just as losing is and I feel we have that winning habit now.

"We've talked about it and we are going into every game feeling we are going to win and that's a great position to be in.

"It's a real shame that our availability wasn't good in the middle part of the season when we played Woolpit, Worlington and Halstead.

"That run of losses against those sides ruined our title chances really.

"You can't do anything about people having other commitments as it's club cricket at the end of the day, but we now have good availability and we just have to try to win every game to see where it takes us.

"We don't want to let our foot off the pedal now and this game against Frinton is important as, after it, we have four games against the four sides above us in the table and we want to take our good form into that run.

"We want to prove to those sides that we should be further up the league if we'd had better availability earlier in the season.

"There are still seven games to go and we want to finish as high as possible to make it another successful season for the club."

Wakelin said he expected James Suett to be available again to face Frinton, but Simon Jones was set to miss the trip to Ashlyns Road.
