Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton was encouraged by how his team played in their final game of pre-season.

However, the Iron boss added that a 0-0 draw against Chelmsford City highlighted that he wanted to see a greater goal threat from his players as their attentions now focus on preparing for next weekend’s National League opener against FC Halifax Town.

Braintree, who had almost an entirely different team on the pitch in both halves, were held to a goalless stalemate by the Clarets in their final pre-season outing at Cressing Road.

Quinton was pleased with the work by his players, especially the side that played in the second 45 minutes, but he does want to see more of an end product to their play.

“I thought it was a lot better from us as the work tempo was good,” said Quinton.

“I put out two teams for both halves and I felt the second one shaded it with the tempo they played at and the passing was a lot quicker.

“There was more forward passing through the channels and along the lines and we looked positive, but I still want us to be hitting the back of the net a bit more.

“We need to cut down on the 15 to 20 passes if we can to keep that tempo high.

“But we’re doing well at this moment in time.

“I’m trying to get some people over the line with their registrations and we’ll go from there but it’s ticking over.

“We’ll have two hard sessions now with the boys on Tuesday and Thursday and some of the boys will be in on Wednesday as well.

“Some of them will be in with our personal trainer one or two days in the daytime next week so it’s down to them now.”
