WITHAM Cricket Club captain Jake Wakelin feels his team have the momentum back that they want after seeing them triumph in a third consecutive Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship match.

A five-wicket victory against Coggeshall was another boost for Witham as they continue to bounce back from a run of form where they won just one of six division one games.

The success against Coggeshall took Witham back into the top five in the division one table and just six points behind fourth-placed Wivenhoe and Wakelin wants his team to keep their run going when they head to bottom side Elmstead on Saturday.

"There is definitely more to come from us as there are improvements that still need to come," said Wakelin.

"But it was important to keep the winning feeling going after the poor run we had a few weeks ago and we'll be looking to keep it going again when we go to Elmstead on Saturday.

"I know they are bottom, but they were champions last year and they are capable of putting in a strong performance and we have to step it up.

"We can't afford to be complacent at all as we know anyone can beat anyone in this league.

"We have to make sure we turn up and if we do what we can do then we should be OK.

"When we faced them earlier in the season, we got ourselves into a position to win, but the weather caused the game to be abandoned and cost us on that day.

"We're just looking to continue winning now and we'll see where it takes us.

"We know top spot is a long way off, but a couple of wins could get us up into the top two or three so we have to keep the momentum going.

"In all sport, momentum is a massive thing and it's been nice to see things going in our favour compared to a few weeks ago when they weren't.

"We now feel we are getting the performances back and want to keep it going."

Wakelin said he expected James Suett to be the only member of his team unavailable for the trip to Elmstead on Saturday.
