BRAD Quinton is confident that his Braintree Town team will be ready for start of the Vanarama National League season.

They are due to continue their pre-season campaign at Coggeshall Town tonight, but the Iron boss has been candid in revealing that his squad building hasn't always been straightforward over the summer, with the involvement of players' agents not helping in assembling the team that he wants within his budget.

He admits that it has slowed down the signing on process of players, but with two games of their pre-season schedule to go, he is confident that things will be slotted into place before the season starts on August 4.

“I’d like to think we’ll be ready," he said.

“It’s important for the players individually to be ready and I’ll be ready.

“We will be technically organised as much as we can as a part-time team.

"But it’s going to take time and for all of these boys to play at this level, we have to be honest with what we are doing,

“We need to focus on the game plan and when games get under way, the boys will get more confident.

“There’s no way I’m going to make them feel downbeat about the jobs they have in front of them.

“There is a big task in front of them and we have to be pulling in the right direction.

“These guys have to keep working when they’re not with me and if they’re not doing that, they will get found out.

“I feel I’m getting the work rate from most of the players and they are rolling their sleeves up.

“We are working really hard behind the scenes – myself and my staff – and they have to trust what we are doing at this moment in time.

“There are a lot of targets we are setting.

“One of those is financially and we are looking to draw in more sponsorship.

“It’s a massive achievement for us to be going into the league that we’re going into and if we can get one or two more sponsors to help this club then it will help us.

“I think every penny is going to help us this year.

“I’m not asking for the world.

“We are what we are and we will give it a fantastic crack with what we have in front of us.

“I will make sure I have the right people around me at this club.”

Quinton knows the National League well as a player, but it is not a level he has managed at yet and he said he has spoken to previous Iron bosses - Alan Devonshire and Danny Cowley - about what could be expected.

The current Braintree manager said: “They speak to me and I speak to them and I also speak to other managers as well.

“If there is something I can do or my staff can do to help this club then we will do.

“That’s our target.

“Everyone at this club has to be in the right frame of mind and pulling in the right direction.

“This club is not about paying people loads of money and we’re where we are because we exceeded expectations.

“We’d all like to have a sugar daddy or big money backer but we’re doing what we can at this moment in time."
