BRAINTREE Town manager Brad Quinton says he would jump at the chance to bring Diaz Wright back to the Iron this year.

However, the Braintree boss believes his home club Colchester United would be mad not to be making full use of their young star's talents themselves.

Wright was a shining light in Braintree's Vanarama National League South promotion campaign last season, scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout to decide the play-off final at Hampton and Richmond Borough.

However, he was only on loan with the Iron and headed back to his parent club at the end of the season.

Wright didn't have to wait long to return to Cressing Road, though, as he lined up for the U's when they visited Braintree on Tuesday and Quinton said it was good to see a player who he rates so highly again.

The Iron boss said he would gladly take him back on loan for his team's Vanarama National League campaign if Colchester were willing to allow that, but he feels he can shine in the Football League for his parent club.

“Colchester were good opposition for us on Tuesday and it was also nice to see Diaz (Wright) back after what he did for us last year," said Quinton.

“What he did for the club and for me individually shows that he is a proper talent and he will go on to so much better.

“If he’s not being utilised in that Colchester team, then he’ll be the first one I’d be asking if we could have back.

“The kid has everything and it’s important that we appreciate all the hard work he did.

“(Colchester manager) John (McGreal) was great in allowing him to come to us, but in my mind, he should be playing week-in week-out in that team."

Meanwhile, Colchester United manager John McGreal was pleased with the test that his team received against Braintree Town.

The U's boss said: “It was really pleasing for us.

“Braintree are a few divisions step up from our first game and on a really dry pitch we tried to change it around.

“They came at us really hard in the opening period and were robust.

“They were in our faces and it was more akin to a game we’ll get in our division – those are the type of games you want from pre-season.

“So it was an excellent exercise for us."
