He finished a shot ahead of Andrew Bardell (16) while a countback was needed to decide third spot on 71 with Trevor Long (15) sealing it ahead of Len Grindal (20) and John Snow (15).

In recent weeks the seniors have played four matches.

They beat Bishop’s Stortford 5-3, Chelmsford 6-2 and Burnham 4½-3½, all at home but went down 6½-1½ at Saffron Walden.

The ladies’ Centenary Cup brought another countback on 40 points with Joan Boulton (22) getting the verdict over Diane Wyatt (21) while Julie Race (9) was third with 39 points.
