TONY Heales secured his first-ever Braintree Bowling Club title win as he triumphed in the annual Singles Four Wood Fixed Jack competition.

On a day more suited to having a nice long ice-cold drink in the shade members battled for honours in this internal competition.

It entailed a round robin set-up where players played eight ends in a league, with the jack being placed at minimum length for one end and at maximum length for the other.

There were four leagues, with the winners facing off in the semi-finals and after some extremely tight heads throughout the competition a last four was decided.

In the semi-finals, Carl Cheetham was narrowly beaten by Eddie Hawkins and Heales was the victor in his game against George Carter.

After seven ends in the final game, the shot difference was too great for Hawkins to win the match and the victor's laurels were handed to Heales.

To make it a little sweeter for him, it was Heales' first ever internal club competition win.
