JULIE Race has been crowned the lady club champion at Braintree Golf Club.

The Championship, played over 36 holes, saw the nine-handicapper post rounds of 81 and 85 for 166.

She finished ten shots ahead of runner-up Gillian Barke (14), who had rounds of 89 and 87.

There was a countback for third on 189 with Diana Hughes (14) shooting 94 and 95 to edge out Melinda Atkinson (13), with 90 and 99.

The Sheppard Salver over 27 holes saw Debbie Blundell take the honours with 59 Stableford points after adding 16 for nine holes to her earlier outstanding 18-hole 43.

Sue Mitchell posted a solid 19 points to add to her 36 to finish second while Carolyn Harris finished a point behind, after adding 19 to her earlier 35.

Braintree GC ladies complete another competition with Tricia Stallwood, playing off 27, winning the Tyrell Trophy with 37 Stableford points.

Caroline Fields (18) finished second with 35 with Helen Hart (24) third on 34.

Alan Simmons, playing off nine, won the men’s Silver Jubilee Order of Merit competition over the weekend with a nett 65.

He finished a shot ahead of Robert Hughes (14) and John Barker (19), with Hughes taking second spot on countback.

There was a further countback on 67 to decide fourth place, with Richard Mitchell (6) gaining the verdict over Michael Steen (14).

The Junior Monthly Medal on Saturday resulted in an outstanding victory for Alasdair Groves with 38 points, playing off ten.

He finished three points ahead of William Farrow (25) while there was a countback for third place on 29 points.

Liam Walsh (17) got the verdict over Aaron Fugeman (26).

Regular winner John Bradford was at it again in the Midweek Stableford.

He signed for 39 points off plus-two handicap, beating Sean Kelly on countback after the five-handicapper also returned 39.

Third was Thomas McGee (5) with 37 while Donald Weaver (3) was a point behind, in fourth.
