THE Kevin Chapman Memorial match at the Fennes was fished on Ash Grounds by 25 anglers and it turned into a close finish for the top places.

As predicted, the willow fluff made fishing very difficult at times and floating lily leaves added to the problem.

Kevin Dewsnip (Colne AC) used the method feeder and pellet waggler on peg seven to land three carp, F1s and bream for a match-winning 56-4-0.

Glen Cousins had two big late carp in the margins to boost his weight to 54-8-0 and second place, while Colne AC team-mates Dave Partridge and Justin Smith took the other places with 52-0-0 and 44-8-0.

Sections (excluding top four): 1 D Drury 40-0-0, 2 G Spong ( BBAS ) 23-0-0, 3 J Chapman ( Fennes ) 41-8-0, 4 J Partway ( Colne AC ) 23-0-0, 5 T Harden 35-2-0.

The match was in aid of the British Heart Foundation and a total of £276 was raised for the very worthy cause, which has benefited several of the competitors, including the winner.

The Braintree Club Sweep at Notley last Friday once again resulted in a close finish.

Jim Loosley had a late run of fish, including a carp to just put him into first place with 23-9-0.

John Daniels just sneaked into second place with 21-12-0, beating Bob Percival by two ounces.

On Sunday, the Braintree Club are on Layer Marney Three for the first round of the Regan Cup.

Names should be given to Pete Thompson if anyone wants to fish and if any Kelvedon members would like to join in the match, they would be welcome.
