MARK Dixon was the runaway winner of the BMW Cup men’s stableford at Braintree Golf Club.

Playing off a handicap of 18, he signed for 43 points to finish three ahead of single handicappers Mark Reeves (6) and Trevor Hardy (8).

Reeves was placed second on countback, while there was a further countback to decide fourth place on 39 points, with plus-one handicapper Callum Pipe edging out Mal Wilde (12).

John Bradford, winner of several events in recent weeks, came up trumps again by topping the midweek stableford.

Playing off plus one, he compiled 37 points, one better than runner-up Thomas McGee.

The ladies’ stableford proved a close fight with Liz Karn (32) running up 38 points, one better than Anita Marlborough (18) with Rosanna Wright (24) third on 36.

Low handicappers also took the honours in the Whitsun Bank Holiday Stableford.

Scratch man Matt Sanders signed for 37 points, finishing one ahead of John Bradford (+1) while there was a countback for third spot on 35 with Adam Crane (3) getting the verdict over Stephen Belchem (15).

The Bank Holiday Mixed fourball betterball competition saw club captains Caroline Fields and John O’Connor lead the way with 46 points.

One point behind were Liz Karn and Kevin Smith while Judy Owens and Andy Fowler finished third with 44.

Braintree's seniors entertained Clacton and in a hard-fought contest the hosts edged it 4½-3½.
