COGGESHALL Cricket Club captain George Blackwell says he’ll be asking for more of the same when his team go looking for a third Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship win in a row on Saturday.

Having won their first division one game of the season at Maldon the previous week, Coggeshall backed that up with their opening home success of the summer when they beat Ipswich at Harefield last weekend and they will be hoping to keep that run going when they head to Mistley on Saturday.

The four-wicket win against Ipswich came as Coggeshall chased down their visitors’ 177 for seven with six overs remaining and Blackwell is looking for more of the same against the Swans.

He said: “I’ll be asking for the same as the past two weeks really.

“We have plans we try to bowl and bat to and we will again this week, so hopefully, as a team, we can get the job done.

“We have always had great games against Mistley and I expect this one to be no different, with a hard-fought match and hopefully we can come out on top but to do that, we need to execute our plans.

“We are not to bad for availability again this week, but unfortunately we will be missing Will Blackwell for two weeks.

“That is a loss with both bat and ball as Will has had a great start to the season and we will miss him but its a great chance for others to step up and fill the gap and I’m confident somebody will.

“Our young leg spinner, Josh Morton, who missed last week, is most likely come back in.

“After a tricky start to the season, we needed to get a couple of wins and get towards the top half of the table and we have done that now.

“I now hope we can get on a little run and pick up a few more wins in the coming weeks.”

The game against Ipswich saw both Will Blackwell and Edward King claim two wickets apiece as the Suffolk side were kept to 177 for seven from their 50 overs and while George Hanham’s half century was the top score in Coggeshall’s reply, the captain was pleased to see plenty of contributions through the line-up in the successful run chase.

He added: “I was very happy with the result as it was important to back up the win at Maldon with our first home win of the season.

“We did that well; we bowled and fielded well and timed the run chase perfectly.

“I was very happy to see everyone contributing and the umpire actually made a comment of ‘is there anyone in this team that doesn’t bowl’.

“We are extremely lucky to have many options in the side with different style bowlers for different situations and if it isn’t someone’s day then so be it as we have the back up.

“With the bat, I feel we are strong but we have had a lot of starts and just need to kick on a bit more when the batsman are set.”
