THE young members of Braintree Tennis Club battled hard for honours over a superb weekend of Junior Cup action.

The Red Ball players kicked off the first day with a fantastic turnout of eight and under players.

The players of Joshua Carvalho, Aaron Long, Joshua Baker, Bradley Rawlinson, Cara Dunbar, Joshua Thomas, Joshua Chilver, Reuben Black and Alexander Holmes were split into two round robin boxes with each player playing the others in a tie break to ten points.

The top two from each box moved through to the quarter-finals with some very close matches notably between Carvalho and Black and Baker and Holmes. The winners moved to the semi-finals which saw Carvalho and Baker play each other again and Long face Chilver.

Carvalho and Chilver made it through to the final, with Chilver taking the victory.

Next, it was the turn of the nine and under Orange ball players.

Carvalho played up for this tournament alongside Dylan Parker, Alice Gilchrist, Joe Andrews, Anna Heath, Archie Chipperfield, Billy Smith, Zack Munro, Lois Dunbar and Isabella Shaw.

The semi-finals saw Parker against Munro and Chipperfield against Shaw, with Munro facing Chipperfield in the final.

It was played as two tie breaks to ten points, with Chipperfield securing the victory with the score of 10-4 and 10-6.

The Green Ball ten and unders started the afternoon session with Zac O'Connor, Ben Morgan, Faye Southan, Joseph Chapple, Henry Young, Albert Orley and Michael Toombs, with Shaw and Chipperfield playing up an age group.

This was the first age group playing on a full-size court and after the round robin stage Chapple faced Young and Shaw took on Orley in the semi finals. The final was between Orley and Young and after a hard-fought encounter, Orley won 4-1 to take the trophy.

To finish the first day the boys and girls 18 and under showed their expertise with a strong turnout of Jack Parker, Becky Clark, William Parker, Giosue Calleja, Joshua Hamilton, Nathan Miller, Ethan Sutherland and Jules Hardy.

This was a tough draw with several competitors not even 12 years old playing far above their age group and the semi-finals saw Hamilton face William Parker and Hardy against Jack Parker.

The final was, for the second year running, the battle of the Parker brothers.

William threw everything at his brother but age won through with Jack keeping his title by winning 6-4.

Clark, meanwhile, played exceptionally well in winning the 18 and under girls' trophy.

The Junior Cup weekend continued the boys and girls 14 and unders competing separately for the title of Junior Champion.

Contesting the girls' title were Aimee Barltrop, Millie Davidsen, Darcy Knight, Lyla Thomas and Morgan Knight.

Davidsen and Barltrop moved through to the final where Barltrop was the victor.

A fantastic turnout of 13 contested the boys' 14 and under title.

The line-up was William Parker, Joshua Packer, Harry Briffa, Jude Gray, Jules Hardy, Jack Davidsen, Adam Gilchrist, Daniel Toombs, William Phillips, Alfie Jopson, Joshua Chapple, Albert Orley and Josh Hooks

The main draw final saw Hardy against Phillips in an impressive match that ended with Phillips taking the title, while the consolation final had Gray being edged out by Packer.
