CRESSING’S Jason Morland is in fighting form once again and hoping to make it five Jack Hubbard Trophy wins on Sunday at the Braintree and District Motor Cycle Club’s annual motocross event at Stisted.

The event is now in its 63rd year and reigning and four-time trophy winner Morland will contest not only the Allcomers class, open to experts and juniors on the latest machinery, but also the increasingly-popular EVO (pre-1990 machines) group.

Sunday’s meeting is round three of the Eastern EVO MX Series and current leader Brad Tomlin will have his work cut out to fend off Morland on this his local track.

The top 15 Allcomers, 12 EVO and 12 NGR riders from qualifying heats will seed through to a grand final that sees the Trophy awarded to the victor.

Round three of the NGR over-30s series also takes place and Norwich’s Aaron Hopkins will be hoping to hold on to his leading position in the standings.

However, opposition from Stisted favourites Paul Hubbard and Steve Bottoms over the tricky traditional circuit is likely to challenge his supremacy.

Local riders Aaron and John Smith, from Rayne, will be hoping to cash in on their intimate knowledge of the course.

The undulating and twisting natural terrain will suit Stisted Enduro expert Will Hughes, and action-packed battles can be expected from a number of leading Enduro riders, including Jamie Roper, who often have the edge over the MX riders.

The course spreads over four meadows, with excellent spectator viewing, courtesy of Dixon-Smith Farms Ltd and Whitehead Farms Ltd.

Practice starts at 10am on Sunday with racing running from 11am until 5pm.

The entrance is directly off the A120 on the Colchester side of the Marks Farm (Tesco) roundabout before the Stisted turn-off (CM77 8AA).

Admission is £10 adults (£7 concessions), which includes a programme, and under-14s get in free.

Anyone who would like to marshal is welcome and will receive instruction as well as a refund of their admission and a token of appreciation from the club.

There is a large, easily-accessible free car park, toilets, catering and full public address.

Supporting the promotion is local business G & B Finch Ltd, and also the family of the late Braintree scrambles and grass track legend Jack Hubbard, who will make the presentation.
