THE Kelvedon Club's Steve Mason Open was held on Seabrooks Reservoir and attracted an entry of 29 anglers, which meant most of the pegs were used and some areas fished rather poorly.

It did, however, lead to a close finish among the Bills Tackle anglers, who landed the most carp.

Mark Banks had eight carp to 16-8-0 and the important tench which gave him a winning total of 88-12-0.

Eight carp was the final tally for Danny Mason, but he fell just short with 87-14-0 for second.

Simon White landed nine carp, but they were smaller and he totalled 83-2-0 in third.

Sections (excluding top three): 1 M Gould (Bills Tackle) 4-4-0, 2 R Percival (BBAS) 7-4-0, 3 B Walker (Bills Tackle) 76-14-0, 4 R Head (KDAA) 27-8-0.

The top silver fish weight pool went Kelvedon's Kim Naish, with 8-13-0, which included one of the bream that have only been caught in the past two seasons, but it did account for about half his weight.

Silver fish were hard to come by at Seabrooks on Sunday but at Notley on Friday all species were reluctant feeders.

Three anglers had one carp each and they decided the match according to their size.

Bernard Huxter had the biggest and together with a few silvers, won the match with 9-10-0.

The section winners both had one carp for the bulk of their weight and they were John Daniels 7-2-0 (section two) and Bob Reed 7-0-0 (section one).

The Braintree Club card shows Sunday's match is at Notley, but this is an error and it is in fact on the Fennes Ash Grounds lake (45 to 60), with a draw at 8.30am.
