THE Braintree Club held their John Doyle Rod and Reel match on the Fennes Hill and Black lake and the weed made fishing very difficult.
Finding a clear spot to fish was relatively easy for most, but bringing back a decent sized fish when hooked was another matter.
Billy Walker had a carp on his second cast, which he landed and he lost two more in the weed, although he did net three bream.
A late carp in the margins gave him victory with 19-4-0.
John Daniels had one carp, three bream, two F1s and a gold fish to finish just behind the winner with 19-0-0 and had to be content with a section win.
Chris Sale sat next to the winner and won his section with a carp and two skimmers for 10-0-0.
Four carp was all Bob Percival needed at Notley on Friday to cruise to victory with 22-8-0.
Section winners were Keven Howell 9-8-0 and Bob Cheeseman 11-0-0.
On Sunday, the Kelvedon Club have their Steve Mason Open on Seabrooks Reservoir.
