NAGS Head Celtic stayed on course for a top-flight Braintree and North Essex Sunday League double with victory in the Premier Division Cup final.

Witham United took on the premier division leaders, but fell behind in the first half as Rob Spalding gave Celtic a 1-0 lead at half-time.

In the second half, Nags Head started strongly and Cory Carter put them 2-0, but strikes from Callum Knightsbridge and Marti Cullum pulled Witham back level at 2-2.

However, Nags Head then took control, with Carter scoring his second of the game and when Celtic were awarded a penalty, Charlie Palmer scored with the last kick of the game to make it 4-2 at the end.

Meanwhile, Braintree Iron played CFC Shalford in the Gordon Snell Trophy Cup final.

This was a very tight game and was decided by the only goal by Braintree Iron’s Nick Stackhouse.

The bottom two sides in the first division faced each other in the Neil Horrocks Memorial Plate final, with Onley Arms taking on Notley FC in an even game.

Notley took the lead 1-0 with a goal from Matthew Weston, before Onley Arms equalised with a goal from Dean Wiffen late in the first half.

The second half continued to be competitive and saw Notley FC’s Bradley Barnard get the only goal in the second half as they took the silverware 2-1.

In league action, the premier division saw Braintree Irons hosted Western Arms and an 8-2 win took the home side to within a point of the leaders.

The league decider is on Sunday when the top two - Nags Head Celtic and Braintree Iron - will go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all contest.

In division one, Bocking Social Reserves hosted Great Bradfords and the away side won 2-1 to set up a big game this weekend.

Bocking Social Reserves' goal scorer was Aaron Mangan, while Great Bradfords had Jack Gilgrist and Tom Doughty on target.

A win on Sunday will see Great Bradfords go second and they can still take the title, but will need to win by 14 goals.

Division two saw Great Bradfords Reserves host Dunmow Rhodes, who won 5-0 to cut the lead at the top to one point with a game in hand.

Ben Fisher scored twice for Dunmow, with Adam Griggs, Jake Sutton and Christian Roles also on targett.

Witham Swan held leaders Braintree Legends to a 4-4 draw.

Ryan Kehoe got a hat-trick for the Swan and Marc de la Rue one, while Braintree Legends' scorers were Gary Harbert, Aaron Chinnery, Aaron Boyd and Jon Archer.
