BRAINTREE Cricket Club are gearing up for a special day in memory of their former captain, chairman and president Tom Gould.

Tom, who passed away in December 2014, was involved with the club for more than 50 years and is part of the club’s DNA and will be fondly remembered at the Tom Gould Charity Day at their Panfield Lane home ground on May 7.

To commemorate Tom and to raise money for charity, the club are holding a colts fun session in the morning and a 15-over competition in the afternoon.

The club are looking for everyone - ex-players and members, Tom's old coaching colleagues and generally anyone who knew Tom from other clubs as well - to contact them if they would like to play.

There will a South African-themed hog roast and barbecue as well as outside bars to keep everyone fed and watered and memorabilia going right throughout the club’s history will be on show from Tom’s personal collection.

The recently-extended and refurbished pavilion will also be on show, and will be officially renamed as the Tom Gould pavilion as part of the proceedings.

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the day, and the club are looking for as many ex-members as possible to come along and share memories of Tom and the club.

The cricket starts at noon, with the pavilion renaming ceremony at 4.30pm.
