Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton hailed the impact of two of his substitutes as his side staged another thrilling finale in their Vanarama National League South win against Whitehawk.

Whitehawk, who had their relegation confirmed by the 4-3 defeat, had led at half-time and then 3-2 in the second half, but the Iron turned the game on its head late on.

Just as they had in their previous game, they snatched a winner deep in time added-on at the end, with Reece Grant scoring the decisive fourth on this occasion.

He also scored the third of the four goals – all of which were from headers - with Jon Muleba and Marc-Anthony Okoye getting the first two.

Grant had been a 62nd minute substitute and Quinton felt, along with another player who came off the bench - Roman Michael-Percil - they helped turn the tide of the game.

Iron boss Quinton said: “A lot happened in the second half after we bought Roman (Michael-Percil) on; I thought he was terrific and was my man-of-the-match.

“But he need to be doing that every single week so that’s the challenge for him now and Reece (Grant) did very well when he came on as well.

“He has been fantastic in the dressing room and in training, he has volunteered to play games in the reserves to get match sharpness and he is tremendous with what he has done.

“His attitude is what we need in this young squad so I was very pleased for him.”

While Quinton would have preferred his team to have picked up the three points in a more straightforward fashion, he did appreciate the excitement of the game’s climax and felt the home fans would have gone home happy again.

He added: “My hairdresser is going to be earning their money getting rid of my grey hairs at this rate, but the fans are certainly getting their money’s worth at our place.

“The boys never gave in again.

“We started really well and went in front, but conceded two sloppy goals and we seem to like to make things hard for ourselves.

“Fair play to Whitehawk though as they had had a fantastic run coming into that game and their manager had done wonders to turn it around for them.

“But you come to our place and you know you’ll be in for a battle.

“The energy and fitness from our boys was unbelievable.”
