An incredible four penalties helped decide the fate of Maldon and Tiptree in their Bostik League division north game against Potter Bar Town.

However, unfortunately for the Jammers, it wasn’t in their favour as their play-off hopes were dealt a blow with a 4-2 defeat.

Three of the spot-kicks awarded were to Potters Bar, with Michael Murray converting all three on 24, 36 and 80 minutes, while James Budden added a fourth goal with a 57th minute strike.

In reply, Maldon were also handed a penalty and Oluwole Akinsanya fired home in the 74th minute to go with his earlier goal from the first half, but they weren’t able to get any closer than that.

The defeat left the Jammers just outside the play-off places, while Potters Bar boosted their own chances as they moved up to third spot.

Another side boosting their play-off hopes was Heybridge Swifts.

Swifts continue to defy their punishing schedule of games as they won a third game in the last six days with a 3-0 victory against Waltham Abbey.

Having been pegged back 0-0 at half-time, Swifts’ goals came after the break with Harrison Chatting firing in a brace and one from Kreshnic Krasniqi as Heybridge moved up to eighth in the table and within three points of the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Witham Town may have left it late again but they saved the best for last as they picked up three more Bostik League division north points with a 1-0 win against Norwich United.

Just as they did against Heybridge Swifts in their previous home game, Witham treated their own fans to a thrilling finale by scoring in the dying moments of the game.

Unlike on that occasion, though, when Correy Davidson’s 90th minute strike secured a draw, Tyler Corlett’s powerful headed goal wrapped up a victory to move Town up a place to 13th in the table.
