A FLURRY of six birdies in the final seven holes earned Jack Jordan an outstanding victory in the men’s Saturday Stableford at Braintree Golf Club.

It enabled the 22-year-old to go round in five under par and post 45 points but he was chased home by 12-year-old Callum Chamberlain with 43 points.

Jordan's handicap was duly cut from four to three while Chamberlain's came down from 13 to 12.

Three players signed for 38 points, with third place going to scratch man John Bradford ahead of David Brooks (12) and Nigel West (13).

With the fine weather continuing, the Sunday Stableford produced more impressive scores.

Two players posted 41 points and after a countback Richard Mitchell, playing off eight, edged out Bradford, who followed up his third place on Saturday by going round in five under par.

Five more players returned 38 points and after a further countback, James Turley (14) took third spot followed by Ian Davis (12), Andrew Marsay (13), John Coules (16) and Peter Yarwood (8).

The ladies’ midweek ten hole Stableford produced a clear winner in Carolyn Harris with 22 points, playing off 22.

Liz Kahn (32) finished runner-up on 19 with Elizabeth Maynard (18) third with 18.
