IT was a case of Sunday best at Braintree Golf Club as those competing in the weekend stableford event on that day produced better returns than those on Saturday.
An outstanding 39 points earned David Hawes victory on Sunday.
Playing off a handicap of 12, he finished a point ahead of runner-up Michael Latta (8), with Philip Edwards (10) third with 37.
The Saturday competition was just as close with 17-handicap Robert Brand taking the honours with 36 points.
A countback was needed to decide second spot, with Eric Roast (16) edging out Derek King (21) after both had 35 points.
Four players signed for 34 points and after a further countback, Jonathan Earl (4) took fourth place ahead of James Bussell (7), Chris Cooke (8) and Christopher Breen (13).
The ladies' midweek nine-hole stableford brought a further tie, with Elizabeth Maynard (18) taking top spot ahead of Valda Curtis (26) after had 19 points.
Third place was also decided on countback, with Caroline Fields (19) finishing ahead of Liz Karn (33).
Both finished with 17 points.
