WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint feels his players have shown they have the desire to fight and now wants them to demonstrate it again when they host Bostik League division north leaders Canvey Island on Saturday.

The Town players showed great fortitude to come back from a two-goal half-time deficit to grab a 2-2 draw with top-six side Bury Town on Tuesday. Although they are still without a win in seven games, grabbing an equalising goal like they did in the final minute - by Tom Robinson - left the result feeling like a victory for Flint and he feels it shows his team do have the fight to compete.

“The desire that I’ve been asking was definitely there in the second half against Bury - we looked like a different team. We competed and did the right things at the right times.

“I was really pleased and it felt like a win for me.

“We showed we can compete if we can be big and strong and when we play like we did in the second half of that game, there’s no reason why we can’t get a good result against Canvey on Saturday.

“They will want revenge for the FA Cup defeat, but we just have to stand up and be counted.”

Flint said he hoped Shamido Pedulu would recover from a knee problem that he picked up against Romford to face Canvey, while Tyler Corlett may return after missing the Bury game through illness.

Meanwhile, Flint said he was looking at the prospect of bringing in new players after the departure of striker Tim Monsheju last weekend.

Last year’s leading scorer has joined Grays Athletic, but the Town boss said it wasn’t a bad move for the player or his club.

He said: “I know there was a seven-day approach that came in for Tim, but I felt it was time for him to move on anyway and I think he’d probably agree as well.

“He had gone a bit stale for us and hadn’t really looked happy this year.

“I think he needed a new challenge and that had showed in his performances as he hadn’t been getting the goals that he was last year.

“His moving on has freed a bit of space for us and we are out looking at players.

“We have a couple of seven day approaches in and I’m talking to players who may not necessarily be playing at our level at the moment who I think are good enough to step up.

“But there is no rush as we have a squad of 18 or 19 and have good players in there.

“Chi (Chinedu Osadebe) came on in the 89th minute against Bury and laid the ball in that Tommy Robinson get the equaliser from and that’s an example of a young player coming and taking their chance.

“We have a group who will fight for each other.”
