SILVER End race ace Toby Bearne was delighted with the progress that his hard work has brought as he once again demonstrated that he can compete at the top end of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup standings.

Having returned to action at the previous round with the TeamHARD team after a three-month break from action, Bearne headed to Silverstone with high hopes of continuing his strong finish to the season - and he delivered with some strong performances on track.

Despite some testing conditions with wet weather at the Northamptonshire circuit, Bearne was consistently fast across the three races of the weekend as he claimed a sixth place and two sevenths in the series that is a support to the British Touring Car Championship.

Bearne said: “Qualifying was difficult as the conditions were changing every lap with a wet track that was then drying, but I took some advice from TeamHARD boss Tony Gilham, which was to make my last lap my quickest and to just build up to it.

“I did exactly that and passed the start-finish line with six seconds to spare and put the the car fifth on the grid in my class.

“Race one was eventful as we struggled with mid-corner understeer, which meant I had to mange it to make sure I didn’t lose too much ground while keeping the car on the black stuff.

“Race two was a 9am start with a damp cold track and no standing water, so everything pointed to slick tyres.

“We went for slicks, but it was a big mistake as the cars on slicks really struggled with getting heat in the tyres and two safety cars killed all heat we did have but I still managed to match the first race finish and was seventh.

“Race three was probably one of the best races I’ve ever had, though.

“I had a great start, really got stuck in on lap one and had great battles throughout with attacking and defending.

“I made some great under cuts on the first bend and once I got into clear air, I was catching the next group of cars but I ran out of laps and finished in sixth.

“I was very happy with race three and it shows I’m improving every race; I’m not fighting for seconds anymore, I’m now fighting for tenths of seconds.”

Bearne thanked his sponsors Texo Scaffolding & Construction, Simply Stainless Ltd and Team Becked for their continuing support and he is now looking forward to the concluding rounds of the season at Brands Hatch in two weeks.
