WITHAM Running Club had more than 40 members competing at the Langham 10K, with seven making their club debuts and 15 recording new personal bests (PBs)

First home for Witham and the first PB was Chris Martin, who finished 14th in 36 minutes 50 seconds, while first lady for the club and third female overall was Liz Stuckey in 43:43.

Mark Austin was first male over 60, as he recorded a PB of 41:16.

Others attaining new PBs were Dave Hunt 37:09, Scott Darney 38:33,Giles Sowerby 39:25, Owen Dare 39:40, Paul English 42:38, Paul Thomas 43:28, Steve Hennings 45:50, Danny Conner 48:34, Rebecca Booty 48:42, David Granger 53:42 and Tracey Denby 56:18.

The Witham first timers were John Lloyd 53:53, Sylvia Bullen-Bell 56:35, Fay Hunt 57:00, Christine Wager 1:03:54, Hillary Curtis 1:08:04, Jojo Lakin 1:10:19 and Charlie Moore 1:10:19.

Elsewhere, WItham's Ross Henderson took on the Jungfrau Marathon in the Swiss Alps and in a race that included over 1,800m of climbing, he completed it in an impressive four hours 42m 38s.

On flatter ground, it was the last of the five-race Essex Cross Country Series at Weald Park over a tough 10km course.

Gerry Greenwold finished in 52:01 and, Victoria Levine, having completed all five races in the series, finished in a time of 1:08:29.

Witham had three members in the Great North Run

Mark Finbow continued his recent good form with a time of 1:22:40, while John Barrett completed the course in 1:58:11 and Louise Pascoe finished in 2:10:47.

The Sweat and Stour eight-mile trail race saw Brigid Wallen 20th in 1:23:28, with Tony Wallen 21st in 1:23:30, Andy White 31st in 1:37:19 and Sue Smith 32nd in 1:37:21.
