GEORGINA Penketh won the Ladies' Club Championship title for the first time at Gosfield Lake Golf Club.

A former lady captain and regular player in the ladies' silver team, Penketh has been highly placed in this competition a number of times including being runner-up last year, but she went one better this time.

Battling over two rounds, Penketh’s endurance and ability resulted in a comfortable win on the Lakes course.

The first round leaders were Penketh followed by Sandra Parnell, Sharon Clark and Jackie Henley with only a handful of shots separating them.

But the second round saw Penketh build on her lead and left all but Henley further in arrears.

Henley’s strong second round was rewarded with second place overall and a late challenge by Clark meant she finished in third place only two shots behind Henley.

Lady captain Cathy Hatcher presented the trophy to Penketh, but the presentation roles were reversed when Hatcher won the Nett prize and received the Challenge Trophy from vice-captain Sue Bernardine.

The ceremonies were completed when Babs Cooper was presented with the winner’s trophy for best gross on the Meadows course.
