BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT and HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS both secured eye-catching victories in Bank Holiday Monday’s Bostik League fixtures.

Regent romped to a 3-0 success in their premier division contest at Needham Market, while Swifts were far too strong for division north neighbours MALDON AND TIPTREE, running out 5-0 winners.

To complete a good day for Gazette sides, WITHAM TOWN sealed a 1-0 victory at home to Barking.

Brightlingsea’s success was their second in three days, having posted their first league win by beating Hendon 2-1 on Saturday.

George Doyle curled them in front from the edge of the box on the half-hour mark and Aaron Condon, last season’s top-scorer, soon doubled the lead by powerfully converting Ricky Griggs’ cross.

Doyle was sent off for a late tackle and Needham were similarly reduced to ten men in the latter stages when Dan Morphew tripped Rob Harvey.

Seven minutes of stoppage time were added and it was during this period that the R’s notched their third, through Billy Hunt.

The striker turned and smashed a shot into the roof of the net.

Heybridge will have enjoyed their sweet victory against rivals Maldon.

Watched by over 300 people, Jody Brown’s side dominated from the off, scoring three goals in the first half and two in the second.

In fact, they were three goals to the good inside 16 minutes thanks to Ryan Henshaw, Harrison Chatting and Sam Bantick.

Joe Gardner then added a fourth late on and Joshua Fagbohun converted an injury-time penalty to make it high fives for Swifts.

Heybridge are second in the table with four wins out of four – a wonderful start to the new division north season.

Elsewhere, Witham notched their first victory courtesy of Tim Monsheju’s 59th-minute winner against Barking, at the Village Glass Stadium.
