BRAINTREE Bowling Club's Graham Easterbrook and Martin Spencer gained further recognition by representing Essex in the preliminary round of the Eastern Counties Pairs against a strong Hertfordshire side at Bishop Stortford.

For the early part of the game it remained a close contest but on the 15th end the Essex pair dropped three shots to trail 14-12.

The Herts side then increased their lead by two more shots making it 16-12.

As the light was now fading, portable floodlights were brought out to compensate and it was from this point on that the Essex pair took control.

They claimed five shots on the penultimate end to bring the score to 19-16 in their favour.

The final end resulted in a killed end by the Herts team - when the Essex pair were holding game - so another end had to be played.

However, this end resulted a victory shot for Easterbrook and Spencer and the successful duo will go forward to the finals at Cambridge & County on September 16.

Meanwhile, in the semi-finals of the North West Essex Pairs competition, Easterbrook and Spencer were unfortunately drawn against fellow club members, Roy Etheridge and Andy Foster.

The game resulted in a victory for Easterbrook and Spencer with a shots tally of 24-10 and they will now contest the finals at Witham on September 10.
