BOB Cheeseman just edged the win as the Braintree Club held a sweep on the Middle Lake at Rayne Lodge.

Due to holidays and other commitments the entry was reduced to eight members, but they enjoyed a cracking match with an average weight of over 70lbs.

The match started slowly, but the fish came on feed as the day progressed and it ended in a tight finish with just one fish between the top two.

Cheeseman had the edge with a total weight of 103-15-0, from Gary Tisshaw, who had to be content with the section money for his 102-2-0.

The other section was won by Ken Rolfe, who weighed 77-13-0.

The weather appeared to play a part in the result of the club's Friday Sweep at Notley, as the fishing improved when the cloud and rain moved in.

In that period, Pete Thompson landed three carp and an F1, which with his other fish, promoted him into first place with 22-7-0.

John Daniels also caught in that time and he had F1s with one small carp to give him second place with 16-12-0.

The draw for the Braintree Club match against Colne Angling Society at Pebmarsh will be at 8am, with fishing between 10am and 4pm.
