BRAD Quinton admits his Braintree Town team will need to be adaptable in order to compete in this season's Vanarama National League South.

The Iron manager is filling his squad with intelligent players who could cope with changing situations within games, as he knows they need to be ready to battle on many fronts this year.

Quinton admitted it would be tough going toe-to-toe with some National League South sides who have big budgets, but has prepared a side that can counter different types of threats they are likely to come across this year.

He said: "Some sides in this league play long ball, some play a lot of possession football and some play high intensity football, so we have to be ready to change.

"That's what we talk about having in our squad.

"We train from one game to the next.

"There will be a few clubs sniffing in and around it next year but I want to see where we are by Christmas and we'll take it from there.

"We need stability at this club after what's happened (with the club's relegation last year).

"Something, for whatever reason, did not work out last year.

"No-one knows really unless they were a fly on the wall of the dressing room, but it's now about stability and getting back to basics with someone like myself who has eaten, slept and died for the cause at this club.

"I've picked up injuries and some great trophies along the way and that's what I'm about.

"I'm that sort of person and that's what I want this club's fans to have.

"The ethos of the game has changed completely in recent years as it's got a lot quicker and fitter.

"So you have to have the right blend of players.

"Anyone can have a sugar daddy to pump loads of money in, but it has to be right in the dressing room.

"You all have to be pulling in the right direction."

Braintree's unbeaten start to the season continued with a 2-0 success at home to Chippenham Town on Saturday.

Karl Oliyidi and Phil Roberts scored their goals at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium.

It was Braintree’s third game of the season, having come from behind to win at Eastbourne Borough last Saturday before being pegged back in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Dartford.

The Iron are away to Essex rivals East Thurrock United tonight.
