JUST a day after celebrating his 19th birthday, Callum Pipe retained the Braintree Golf Club Championship by a stroke at Stisted.

Playing off plus-one, he posted an eight-over-par 148 after rounds of 71 and 77, just edging out one-handicap James Hedger, who returned 74 and 75.

Fellow Thornton Cup team-mate Paul Buchan shot 73 and 77 to finish third.

The Junior Club Championship saw the gross competition being won by Kyron Moon, who signed for 81 playing off a handicap of ten.

Second was Alasdair Groves (13) with 86, edging out Callum Chamberlain (14) on countback.

The handicap competition was won by Aaron Fugeman (27) with a net 69 ahead of William Farrow (30) with 75.

The Lady Captain’s Day saw Sue Scott, playing off 20, finish top with 38 points.

She finished two clear of runner-up Maxine Dowman (21) while six players returned 35 points and after a countback Caroline Fields (19) took third place.

Fourth was Marilyn Grubb, fifth Diane Wyatt followed by Valerie Bethell, Carole MacLeod and Susan Snell.

Ten-handicapper Mick Sutton won the Sunday Stableford with 39 points while there was a countback for second spot on 38 with Richard Mitchell (9) edging out Ian Turner (9).

Ian Davis (11) finished fourth with 37.
