BRAINTREE Town will be looking to gain valuable experience when they continue their pre-season action at Newmarket Town tonight.

Playing on the Jockeys' artificial 3G pitch will be important to Brad Quinton's side as they will be opening their Vanarama National League South campaign on a similar surface on August 5 and want to build for that.

Chairman Lee Harding said: "Newmarket have a 3G pitch and that's why we're keen to get a pre-season game there as it's a good surface that is used by Cambridge United and we'll be coming up against that three or four times this season.

"The first of those will be on the opening day at Eastbourne Borough and we have to make sure that we know how to be geared up for that.

"We need to understand how that surface plays as we want to hit the ground running."

The Iron began their pre-season games at Long Melford on Saturday.

They won 6-0 in their first outing under new manager Brad Quinton and Harding was pleased with what he saw.

"It's still early days for the new management and the team, but I think the early indications are positive," he added.
