BRAINTREE Bowls Club's ladies put in an admirable performance against Great Baddow as they hosted them in the Essex County Top Club competition, but were unable to secure a home triumph.
Great Baddow are previou winners of this County trophy, are one of the strongest clubs in Essex and claimed a 3-1 win in this first-round clash.
The competition was played over four different bowling disciplines, singles, pairs, triples and fours, with the combined scores determining the winning team.
Braintree's successful triples team of Sandra Mayne, Danielle Gibbons and Pauline Green won their match comfortably by eight shots.
However, this could not be repeated in the singles and pairs, whom both lost, while the fours were unlucky to lose by just one shot.
