BRAINTREE Boxing Club presented their awards to club members who had demonstrated excellent commitment, dedication and success throughout the last year.

These awards included the Braintree Boxing Club trophy for Best Senior Boxer 2016 and it was won by the ever-present and fast-improving prospect Jason Windsor.

He was awarded this trophy for his fantastic work ethic, skill and boxing achievements overall.

The Junior Boxer of 2016 was awarded to much-touted contender Shane Pavitt, who in his final year as a junior boxer, consistently delivered excellent performances in competition bouts.

His achievements included a remarkable display when securing a silver medal at the Haringey Box Cup.

Other notable winners included regular squad and club members who excelled in training, sparring sessions and when representing the club at competition level.

The full list of award winners also included Charlie Mcallister, Fern Pavitt, Joe Turner, Joe Bryant, Tommy Day, Luke Flint, Alex Heard, Dan Johnson and Miguel Pavitt.

In a new award, that will now be presented annually, Senior Boxer of the Year Windsor was awarded the Mick Gushlow plaque.

This award will be presented to an individual each year who has been outstanding in all aspects of their boxing training, and was donated by the Gushlow family in memory of the former elite Braintree boxer Mick Gushlow.

Braintree head coach, Sean Magee, said: "The club are extremely proud to present this plaque to the most exceptional member every year.

"Not only was Mick Gushlow an unbelievable talent, but also arguably the best boxing champion to have ever come from this area.

"Braintree Boxing Club will always have a strong sense of tradition and has been in the local area for over 60 years in different forms, therefore it is very rewarding to have such a fine boxer from our history still connected with the club. "Everyone had a magnificent 2016 and should be extremely pleased with their achievements."
