Braintree Town have announced that they and manager Hakan Hayrettin have reached a mutual decision to go their separate ways.

Hayrettin had been the club's manager since last October after the departure of Jamie Day, but was unable to secure their position in the Vanarama National League.

He guided the Club to its best ever FA Cup run and also matched its best performance in the FA Trophy.

However, a combination of injuries to key players and a dip in form in the last few weeks of the season saw the club slip back into the league's relegation places and ultimately finish third from bottom.

Chairman Lee Harding said: "If we had appointed Hakan back in the summer and given him that blank sheet of paper I am sure we would not have struggled as we have.

"He's given us everything and came so close to securing our status."

Hayrettin passed on his thanks to Iron fans in the statement released by the club.

He added: "We're all disappointed how it finished up, but I'd like to thank everyone that helped me and I wish you all the very best for the future."

The news means that this will be the third summer running that Braintree have had to look for a new manager after the departure of Alan Devonshire in 2015 and Danny Cowley in 2016.
