RAYNE Boxing club's Hannah Mortier secured a national title with victory in the under-54kg category when she fought in the Junior Cadet National final at Liverpool's Green Bank Sports Academy.

Standing in the way of Mortier and the title was Taylor Rushton of Willenhall ABC.

The sound of the opening bell saw the Notley High School pupil looking to establish her jab early on.

But with her opponent's good head movement and quick counters, the Rayne girl boxed on the back foot, catching Rushton with powerful straight shots as she moved in to take the first round.

The second saw Rushton looking to up her work rate and she was successful in landing some good hooks to the body, however, as the round closed, Mortier showed her competitive nature.

She fired back big shots in order to deter Rushton's advances, but the Willenhall boxer's work rate earned her the round.

It had also tired her, though, and Mortier boxed behind the jab in the final round, switching her attacks to head and body.

She was now turning off the ropes, avoiding the powerful attacks of her more experienced opponent and after three hard-fought rounds, was awarded the win via unanimous decision.

Mortier is next in action on May 6 in an England talent day event where she will be looking to be selected to box for England.
