THE Martial Arts Centre saw individual and team success as they attended the AMA International Karate Open Championship in Sheffield.

This two-day event is a top class karate event with students from the Braintree-based club joining competitors from all over the country from all styles and also visitors from abroad.

The Martial Arts Centre’s 14-strong squad gave an excellent account of themselves, including an overall Kata victory for the black belt adult team.

Four of the squad were attending an event of this size for the first time but showed excellent skill and attitude.

At the end of the weekend the squad had achieved a top-eight placing and a top-six placing, both in large categories.

There were also individual successes.

RESULTS: Isla Scott - 4th Place Kata - 3rd Place Kumite; Alfie Ellis - 3rd Place Kata; Junior Pairs - 6th Place; Black belt girls Kata team (Isla Scott, Evelyn Higgon & Abbie Sutton) - 3rd Place; Black belt adults team Kata – Champions.

Chief Instructor David Wilson said "Our squad should be proud of themselves - I certainly am proud of them."
