BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT showed their championship class with an emphatic 5-0 victory at Essex neighbours WITHAM TOWN tonight.
All the goals came in the second half, with Billy Hunt breaking the deadlock before being joined on the scoresheet by Tom Richardson, Aaron Condon (two) and George Doyle.
Regent’s first three goals came in a five-minute burst and the new Ryman League division north champions now have 99 points, heading into their next match at home to Dereham Town on Monday.
Hunt’s opener was a spectacular long-range lob, with keeper Reece Paine stranded, and it was quickly followed by a second from Richardson, who pounded to nod in Condon’s cross.
Condon himself then made it three with an unstoppable free-kick to complete an action-packed spell just after the hour-mark.
Condon grabbed his second of the night with a cool finish in the latter stages before engineering the fifth, crossing for Doyle.
The match was watched by a bumper crowd of 402.
Regent, who wrapped up the division north title last weekend, are now getting set to receive their championship silverware.
It is being presented to them by league officials at the Dereham game on Monday.
