COLNE Valley Golf Club's winter league came to its conclusion with this year's winners being Ray Dalton and Neil Dodge after they overcame favourites Paul Davies and Tom Bowles with a 3&2 victory.

Davies and Bowles never really got going while Dalton and Dodge dovetailed well to earn the win.

The same day also saw Valley’s Jubilee Cup side go down to a 6-3 defeat at Stoke by Nayland.

Valley’s points came courtesy of singles wins for Stuart Collindgridge and Tom Murton, while Don Cutmore managed a half and Andy Wilkinson and Ken Poulter scored a half in the pairs.

Meanwhile, back at the Valley, Daniel Fraser took the Saturday stableford with 36 points.

Henry Dow was second on 35 and Steve Potter third with 33.

A solid field of 39 players took part in the men’s seniors' first major competition of 2017 - the Bengt Eriksson Trophy.

Eric Keeble took the honours with 40 points, which was three clear of Steve Willingham in second and Robert Dowman in third as both finished on 37 points.

The ladies held their Spring Meet, with Sue Gilbert coming out on top with 36 points.

Ruth Finch beat Ruth Eyre-Pugh into second place on countback after both ladies returned 35 points and the best team prize went to Eyre-Pugh, Amanda Rollings and Joan Silk.

Eyre-Pugh put Thursday's disappointment behind her on Sunday to win the ladies' medal by six shots after scoring a nett 67.

Alessandra Callow was second with a nett 73, followed by Sue Petchey in third with nett 77.
