ALEX Lynn's dream came true as he drove to victory at one of the world's most iconic endurance motor races - the Sebring 12 Hours.

The 23-year-old from Dunmow headed to Florida to race in the classic endurance event as part of the three-man Wayne Taylor Racing team along with team owner Wayne Taylor’s sons Ricky and Jordan.

The siblings had won the Daytona 24 Hours race in January, so Lynn knew he was in good company but also realised how hard it would be to win at Sebring.

So he was in dreamland as the trio used some cunning strategy to safeguard their tyre use during the 12-hour race that allowed them to guide their Cadillac DPi-V.R to the chequered flag.

Lynn admitted to being "emotionally drained" after the gruelling event but was delighted to add his name to an illustrious list of British Sebring winners that includes Sir Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, John Surtees and, more recently, Johnny Herbert and Anthony Davidson.

He said: "Victory on my first attempt at the Sebring 12 Hours.

"I was dreaming of a win but, in the run-up to the race, all I knew was we had a good chance, and that we could obviously do it.

"But this is a dream.

"I’m really happy – it surpassed all my expectations.

"I’d just like to say a big thank you to Wayne Taylor Racing - they and the Cadillac were fantastic and Ricky and Jordan drove an amazing race.

"It’s just a dream."

The event may have been tiring for Lynn, but there is no let-up for him as he will be heading to Germany this weekend to the Nurburgring, where he is set to race around the legendary 16-mile Nordschleife circuit in the VLN race as a warm-up for the 24-hour event there later this year as part of the BMW works team.
