LEE Collis and Andrew Fowler came out on top in the Winter League final at Braintree Golf Club.

The lower handicap pairing of Julian Pegg, off ten, and scratch man Matt Sanders faced an uphill challenge having to give 21 shots to their opponents.

And so it turned out as Collis, off 23, and ten-handicap Fowler emerged victorious 6&5.

Meanwhile, solid scoring was the order of the day in both stableford competitions at Stisted over the weekend, with high handicappers leading the way.

On Saturday, Malcolm Rodgers, playing off 28, returned 42 points, finishing four ahead of runner-up Phillip Musgrove (18) while there was a three-way countback for third spot on 36 points.

Paul Kelly (21) got the verdict over Philip Edwards (12) and Richard Moffat (13).

Andrew Marsay, off 13, ruled the roost on Sunday with 41 points, two clear of Callum Chamberlain (16) with Michael Webster (14) in third with 38.

The ladies’ midweek Par Bogey competition was won by Julie Race (9) on +2 with Diane Reeve (16) finishing on +1.

Five players on -2 were involved in a countback, with Melinda Atkinson (14) finishing third ahead of Janet White (17), Pauline Haggerty (36), Sue Mitchell (21) and Marlene Wilson (21).
